Review: Fire Maple Fire-FLEET Stove

The Fire Maple Fire-FLEET stove (FMS-118) is a trimmed-down version of the FMS-105. At 91g lighter (a 37% weight reduction), it’s a great option for those who love the stability of a fuel line-fed stove but want to carry less weight.

Quick Specs

Price: R700 (at time of writing)
Size: Ø145×75mm (Folded: Ø75×89mm)
Weight: 155g (Advertised: 146g)
Time to boil 1L of tap water at sea level: 6min 30sec (The MSR Pocket Rocket took 6min 25sec under the same conditions).

Features

The main advantage of a fuel line-fed stove is its low center of gravity and excellent stability. The Fire-FLEET stove allows a pot to sit just 75mm off the ground. Combined with wide feet and pot arms, it provides a very stable outdoor cooking experience.

Its low profile also makes it easy to use a full windshield — something usually too short for canister-top stoves.

The stove includes a pre-heat generator tube that warms the gas before ignition for improved efficiency. When the canister is inverted, the stove runs in “liquid feed” mode, performing better in cold conditions than standard upright designs.

It comes with a tough mesh storage pouch that conforms to the stove’s shape, making it compact enough to fit neatly inside a cooking pot.

Ease of Use

The stove offers great heat control and simmers well, with an evenly distributed flame that’s ideal for larger pots.

Because the gas canister sits beside the stove rather than below it, swapping out an empty canister mid-cook is easy — no need to handle a hot pot or burner.

There are a few small quirks: the pot arms are loosely attached and flop around during setup, and the fuel line is fairly stiff, only swivelling on the canister side. Also, the stove doesn’t fit perfectly on Cadac or Providus gas canisters — their valves seem slightly too deep — though Eiger canisters worked perfectly.

Conclusion

Lightweight, stable, and efficient — the Fire Maple Fire-FLEET is a great stove for hikers who want the reliability of a fuel line system without the bulk.
