Looking back on 2019
Happy New Year to all the hikers out there! We hope it’s going to be a fantastic year for everyone, filled with many new trails, some old favourites, and awesome adventures shared with hiking buddies.
Looking back at the website stats of 2019, it’s very exciting to see how many more hikers are making use of the platform. From gear reviews to new trail descriptions, asking questions and sharing information nationally, Hiking South Africa continues to grow as a hiking community resource.
The Numbers
In 2019, Hiking South Africa had a total of 125 350 unique visitors (a 40% increase from 2018) from all over South Africa, as well as a few thousand international visitors, resulting in 658 645 pageviews (also a 40% increase from 2018).

We posted a total of 69 articles in 2019, broken down into the following categories:
- News & Articles: 20
- Videos: 19
- Gear Reviews: 13
- Trails: 17
Our Community Forum reached 706 members, and in 2019 we saw 186 new topics discussed.
In addition to the increase in website traffic, we’ve also seen a couple of new brands establishing themselves in the South African market, bringing fresh ideas and healthy competition to the gear we rely on in the outdoors.
